আজ কোর্সটিকায় আমরা Narration কে সহজ করে তোলার সহজ কিছু নিয়ম শিখবো। এই নিয়মগুলো অনুসরণ করলে Narration থেকে উত্তর লেখা তোমার জন্য অনেকাংশেই সহজ হয়ে যাবে।

Narration কি? – Narration কি বা কীভাবে Narrationপরিবর্তন করতে হবে তা আমরা উদাহরণের মাধ্যমে শিখব।

• উদাহরণ ১ : Riya says, “Tiya is a very good girl”.
• উদাহরণ ২ : Riya says that Tiya is a very good girl.

এখানে উদাহরণ ১ হল Direct Narration যেখানে বক্তার কথাটি হুবহু তুলে ধরা হয়েছে। অপর দিকে উদাহরণ ২ হল Indirect Narration যেখানে বাক্যটি পরিবর্তন করে নিজের ভাষায় লেখা হয়েছে।

Narration Change করার নিয়মাবলী:

আমরা আগে জেনেছি Narration দুই প্রকারের Direct Narration ও Indirect Narration. এখানে আমরা Direct Narration বা Direct Speech থেকে Indirect Narration বা Indirect Speech এ কিভাবে পরিবর্তন করতে হয় সেই নিয়ম গুলি উদাহরণ সহ বিশদে আলোচনা করব। আর এ জন্য সবার প্রথমে জানতে হবে Direct Narration বা Direct Speech এর অংশগুলি। Direct Speech এর দুটি অংশ:

১) Reporting speech

২) Reported speech

Reporting speech এর verb টি হল Reporting verb আর Reported speech এর verb টি হল Reported verb।

যেমন: Rekha says, “She has two pens.”

এখানে “says” হল Reporting verb এবং “has” হল Reported verb।

Narration change এর সাধারণ নিয়ম:

• Direct Narration বা Direct Speech থেকে Indirect Narration বা Indirect Speech পরিবর্তন করার সময় direct speech এ যে কমা ও ইনভার্টেড কমা থাকে সেটি উঠে যায়
• Direct speech ও Indirect speech এই মধ্যে একটি conjunction বসাতে হয়
• Reported speech এর কর্তা যদি Pronoun হয় তাহলে Narration change এর সময় Pronoun টি Reporting speech এর কর্তা অনুসারে পরিবর্তিত হবে।

Assertive Sentence:

১) Reporting verb যদি Present tense এ থাকে তাহলে Narration change এর পর Reported verb এর কোন পরিবর্তন হবে না।

• Direct: Madhu says, “She reads books in the morning.”
• Indirect: Madhu says that she reads books in the morning.

২) Reporting verb টি যদি Past tense এ থাকে তাহলে Narration পরিবর্তনের সময় Reported verb কিভাবে পরিবর্তিত হবে তা নীচে টেবিলে দেওয়া হল।

Reported verb : Reported verb এর পরিবর্তন

Universal truth বা habit ► কোন পরিবর্তন হবে না

Present indefinite ►Past indefinite

Present continuous ► Past continuous

Present Perfect ► Past perfect

Past Indefinite ► Past indefinite

Past continuous ► Past perfect continuous

Past Perfect ► Past perfect

Shall (Future tense) ► Should

Will (Future tense) ► Would

• Direct: Kalpana said, “She goes to school regularly”.
• Indirect: Kalpana said that she went to school regularly.

৩) Reporting verb টি যদি Future tense হয় তাহলে Narration change এর সময় Reported verb এর কোন পরিবর্তন হবে না।

• Direct: Gita will say, “She loves to play cricket”.
• Indirect: Gita will say that she loves to play cricket.

Interrogative Sentence:

Wh বা How ছাড়া অন্যান্য Interrogative sentence এর ক্ষেত্রে:

১) এই ধরনের Interrogative sentence বা প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্যে Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ পরিবর্তন করার সময় প্রথমে Interrogative sentence টিকে Assertive sentence এ পরিণত করতে হবে।

২) Reporting verb টি পরিবর্তিত হয়ে Indirect sentence এ ask, enquire of বা want to know ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

৩) Introductory conjunction এর পরিবর্তে if অথবা whether ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

৪) Indirect narration এ sentence এর শেষে Full stop (.) বসাতে হবে।

• Direct: Kabita said to Binoy, “Do you know Sabita?”
• Indirect: Kabita asked Binoy whether he knew Sabita.

Wh এবং How দিয়ে শুরু Interrogative sentence এর Narration পরিবর্তন এর নিয়ম:

১) এই ধরনের Interrogative sentence বা প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্যে Direct speech থেকে Indirect speech এ পরিবর্তন করার সময় প্রথমে Interrogative sentence টিকে Assertive sentence এ পরিণত করতে হবে।

২) Reporting verb টি পরিবর্তিত হয়ে Indirect sentence এ ask, enquire of বা want to know ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

৩) Introductory conjunction এর পরিবর্তে Wh word অথবা How ব্যবহার করতে হবে।

৪) Indirect narration এ sentence এর শেষে Full stop (.) বসাতে হবে।

• Direct: Manalo said to his brother, ”Why are you laughing?”
• Indirect: Manalo asked his brother why he was laughing.
• Direct : Manalo said to his brother, ” How many pens you have?”
• Indirect: Manalo asked his brother how many pens he had.

Imperative Sentence:

১) Direct Narration এর Reporting verb টির অর্থ অনুযায়ী Indirect narration এ পরিবর্তন করতে হবে যেমন আদেশ বোঝালে order, অনুরোধ বোঝালে request প্রভৃতি।

• Direct: The teacher said to students, “Don’t tell lie.”
• Indirect: The teacher forbade students to tell lie.

Optative Sentence:

১) যেহেতু এই ধরনের বাক্যে প্রার্থনা, ইচ্ছা ইত্যাদি বোঝায় Indirect narration এ Reporting verb টি pray, wish, bless প্রভৃতি verb বসে ।

২) Introductory conjunction হিসাবে ক্ষেত্র বিশেষে that বসানো যেতে পারে।

• Direct: He said, ”May God bless you.”
• Indirect: He prayed that God might bless him.

Exclamatory Sentence:

১) Exclamatory sentence এ আবেগ, আনন্দ, বিস্ময় প্রভৃতি অনুভূতির প্রকাশ পায়, তাই এই ধরনের sentence এর Narration change করার সময় Indirect Narration এ রিপোর্টিং verb টির পরিবর্তে sentence অর্থ অনুযায়ী exclaim with joy, exclaim with sorrow প্রভৃতি বসাতে হয়।

Direct: Madhuri said, “How full I am!”

Indirect: Madhuri reproached herself for being such a big full.
